Installation / Maintenance
When validating your online purchase, you’ll receive a link to technical documentation detailing the key steps for replacing these anodes on your boat’s system.
On 3-stage systems (when fully retracted), all anodes are accessible from the water, for example using your dinghy or inflatable boat.
This means you can replace all 4 anodes (2 per column) without having to take the boat out of the water.
- Remove used anodes from the system
- Each anode is fastened to the system using two (2) A4 – M6x16 TCHC stainless steel screws (supplied with the anode).
- Thoroughly clean the surface of the system in contact with the anodes before installing the new anode.
This ensures perfect contact between the anode and the aluminum column. - Fit the new anode using the 2 screws supplied.
ATTENTION: no threadlocker or other insulator on the screws to ensure the best possible electrical contact. - Repeat for all anodes in the system
We recommend inspecting your system at least once a year to assess the condition of the anodes, and cleaning them regularly.
In general, anodes should be replaced at least every 12 months. This essentially depends on the areas in which you sail and their level of wear.
Aluminum anodes are less polluting than zinc or magnesium anodes, offering excellent protection for aluminum hulls and equipment.
ATTENTION: an anode loses its effectiveness when it is more than 60% worn – Aluminum anodes in seawater / Magnesium anodes are preferable in freshwater.
In the light of our experience and to limit galvanic corrosion (which is normal), when your boat is docked and only in this case, you can lower the platform so that the end of the column touches the water. This allows galvanic current to escape from the system into the sea, thus limiting corrosion. Simply lower the platform so that the “first deployment section” of the system touches the water, without the platform support arms necessarily touching the water.
On the other hand, if you leave the platform in the air (fully retracted), galvanic current does not easily escape from the columns and tends to “accelerate” corrosion of the anodes and the system.

Our review
✔ Pros
- Anti-corrosion protection: This kit limits galvanic corrosion, extending the service life of aluminum lifting columns.
- Simple installation: anodes can be replaced from the water without taking the boat out for maintenance, especially on three-stage systems.
- Optimized compatibility: Designed specifically for NOVAL systems, this kit is perfectly suited to the models shown.
- Durability of material: A4 stainless steel screws and high-quality anodes ensure good resistance in the marine environment.
- Comprehensive documentation: A technical guide is provided for accurate and correct replacement, even for novices.
✘ Cons
- Replacement frequency: Replacement every 12 months may seem frequent, especially for owners in highly corrosive areas.
- Dependence on the type of berth: To limit corrosion, the platform must be lowered in port, which can be restrictive depending on the installation.
- Limited compatibility: This kit is designed only for specific NOVAL models, limiting its use for other systems.
- Need for regular maintenance: Annual inspection is recommended, which requires regular vigilance on the part of owners.
- Environmental impact: Replacing anodes creates metal waste, and the need for new materials may not be ideal for users sensitive to ecological impact.
Conclusion
This NL3621 sacrificial anode kit is an essential choice to guarantee the protection and durability of the stern lift systems equipping many prestigious boats. Thanks to its specific design for NOVAL lifting columns and its simplified installation, even from the water, this kit enables owners to keep their equipment in perfect condition, while limiting galvanic corrosion. Although it requires regular maintenance, it offers a reliable, high-performance solution for preserving aluminum systems in demanding marine environments. Investing in this kit ensures the longevity of your equipment and effectively protects your boat.
