Description of the 316L stainless steel ball socket end fitting EFBS006S – Ø10 mm ball – M8 thread – 30 mm offset
The EFBS006S stainless steel ball socket end fitting is a spare part for gas springs (also called gas struts or gas lifts) made by SPEC / Associated Spring Raymond. It is machined from 316L marine-grade stainless steel for harsh nautical environments. It screws onto the M8 thread at the end of a gas spring, on either the rod or the cylinder body, and fits over a 10 mm diameter ball stud. This connection lets the strut pivot freely as a hatch, locker lid or panel opens and closes.
Its main feature is the 30 mm offset between the thread axis and the centre of the ball socket. This longer offset moves the gas spring further from its bracket, which helps when the strut must clear a frame, a hinge, a gasket or a moulding edge, or when the mounting points are not perfectly aligned. It gives more freedom in fitting the strut in tight engine bays, lockers and hatches.
A stainless steel retaining pin passes through the head of the socket and holds it on the ball. To disconnect the gas spring, lift or pull out the pin and slide the socket off. Refitting is just as quick: put the socket over the ball and push the pin back in. You can reach a locker, replace a strut or service a hinge in a few moments, while keeping a positive mechanical lock in normal use.
The all-metal construction resists UV radiation, prolonged salt spray exposure, frequent temperature changes and high mechanical loads. The EFBS006S is a good choice for cockpit lockers, deck hatches, engine compartment hatches, swim platform lockers and any gas spring fitted outside or in direct sunlight. It also suits interior installations where durability and strength matter.
The EFBS006S fits every gas spring with an M8 threaded end and works with stainless steel ball brackets or any other mounting that has a 10 mm ball stud. For gas springs with an M6 thread, use the EFBS002S (Ø10 mm ball, M6, 18 mm offset).

Installation / Maintenance
Installation:
- Before taking off the old fitting, support the hatch or panel so the gas spring is not under load.
- Unscrew the old end fitting, then screw the EFBS006S fully onto the M8 thread of the rod or body.
- Lift the stainless steel retaining pin, push the socket onto the 10 mm ball stud, then push the pin fully back into place.
- The 30 mm offset changes the strut’s position compared with a shorter-offset fitting. Check that the gas spring keeps enough clearance and stroke through the full opening travel.
Maintenance:
- From time to time, check that the retaining pin is fully engaged and that the socket has no play on the ball.
- Rinse with fresh water after exposure to salt spray, and apply a light film of silicone grease to the ball stud.
- Replace the retaining pin if it is bent or has lost its spring tension.
Our review
✔️ Pros :
- 316L stainless steel resists corrosion, UV and salt spray.
- The 30 mm offset gives extra clearance from brackets and structure.
- Stainless steel retaining pin gives a secure lock and quick removal.
- Withstands high mechanical loads.
- OEM fit with RESSORTS SPEC / AS RAYMOND gas springs.
❌ Cons :
- Heavier and more expensive than plastic end fittings.
- Fits 10 mm ball studs with an M8 thread only.
- The long offset changes the strut’s geometry, so it is not a direct swap for a shorter-offset fitting.
Conclusion
The EFBS006S is the right end fitting when a gas spring with an M8 thread must connect to a 10 mm ball stud with extra clearance. Its 30 mm offset, 316L stainless steel body and retaining pin make it a strong, long-lasting choice for exposed or heavily loaded installations. Before ordering, check the thread (M8), the ball diameter (10 mm) and the offset needed by your installation. For M6 gas springs, choose the EFBS002S.
